Working Period - Seasons
Sirius Apartments are open for guests from April to October each year. The actual opening & closing dates may vary each year depending on expected arrivals. For 2012, we have loaded availability from 9 April until 31 October. Do not hesitate to contact us in case you need an accommodation one or two weeks before or after our planned dates. It is always possible that we keep an apartment ready for you.
Take advantage of our low rates offered during spring (April, May) until early summer (10 of June) and from 16 September on. Medium season, for those who want to get the most out of Crete, is favorably set this year including the first two weeks of July and September.
Plan your vacation early in case you plan to visit Crete during high season (15 July - 25 August), so as to enjoy our combination of early booking and long stay offers, while air tickets to Heraklion are still a bargain.
Families
All of our apartments are suitable for families with up to 2 children sleeping in sofa beds in the living room. One baby cot can be placed in each bedroom. The use of a baby cot is not taken into account when calculating the number of children an apartment can sleep.
Families with 3 children may choose a ground floor 2-Room Apt. Unless a special request is driven by you, an apartment with a big living room will be arranged so that an extra bed for the third child will comfortably fit in. The option of the third child sharing the parents' bedroom is also available but on a very limited basis and with certain restrictions.
A total of two 3-Room Apartments (2 bedrooms) are also available for families with four children.
Reservation via bank transfer
Reservation via bank transfer is possible by proceeding to a
bank deposit of 30% of total reservation amount. Please contact us
for bank account details and for keeping the apartment available at
your disposal until the bank transfer is completed. We will send
you a formal reservation confirmation by fax or e-mail as soon as
we check with our bank.
Nearby Attractions & Activities
Hersonissos Port area provides a full range of activities and services, that are able to meet any expectation. Sea sports are offered at the central beach and at other organized beaches in the area. Two big water parks (Acqua Plus & Watercity), the newly built Aquarium, and the Crete Golf Club can be found within 10 km range from the apartments.
The city center itself includes all kinds of shops, rentals (car, motorbike, bicycle) and tourist bureau for excursions. Tennis courts, go karting, the Aquaworld Aquarium, the Lychnostatis Open Air Cretan Museum and a small water park can be found within the limits of the Hersonissos town. The traditional villages of Old Chersonissos, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano are only 1 km up the hill and are worth visiting.
The town itself is built on the ruins of -Classical Greece through Byzantine times- city named "Chersonissos" that served as a port for the city of Lyttos. The remnants are still seen where the many hotels and shops have not yet taken over. On the seaside street, there is a pyramidal Roman fountain with mosaics of fishing scenes. On the top of the rocky hill behind the port stand the ruins of an early Christian basilica with floor mosaics. The ruins of the palace of Malia are the nearest antiquities found in the area dating back to the Minoan times.
Heraklion & Knossos - Sightseeing
The capital city of Crete is 24 km away from Hersonissos Port. Although, your only goal may be to be close to a beach, especially during July or August, Heraklion and Knossos Minoan Antiquities are mostly recommended for visiting while in Crete.
To visit Knossos by bus, you will have to switch buses at the central bus station in Heraklion opposite Heraklion's Port. The Palace of Minoas is 7km to the south of Heraklion.
The Venetian Walls in Heraklion are surrounding the busy centre and delimit the Old Town, rich in life, historical monuments and museums. Click here for Sightseeing & Tour of the City.
The Countryside & Villages
Plenty of short excursions can be planned while staying at our apartments. For those who like to move around, we recommend renting a car for a number of days, in order to enjoy access to truly limitless options. The diversity of the landscape around Crete will reward your every effort.
Moving east, Sissi, Milatos, Plaka & Elounda (Spinalonga Island), Agios Nikolaos and Kritsa are all within 35 km range.
Take the road south to Avdou or Mohos for reaching the Lassithi Plateau (30 km) and visit the Diktaion Cave.
Continue your day in the inland after visiting Knossos Palace (31 km), to Peza region, the heart of viniculture in Crete. The Wine Roads of Crete will drive you through the villages of Skalani, Archanes, Peza with plenty of options for gastronomy tastes. Visit N.Kazantzakis Museum at his birthplace, the nearby village of Myrtia.
Move further south of Heraklion to visit Festos Minoan Palace & Matala or Agia Galini, the village of Anogeia at Psiloritis (Mount Idi). Move further west of Heraklion and head to Fodele, Agia Pelagia, Rethymno and Hania.
Dining
When in Crete dining out is something you do not have to unduly concern yourselves with. You will find plenty of options in the many traditional taverns and restaurants in and around Hersonissos Port but also in most of the island's towns and villages. Those staying for a short time will, most certainly, at least once either choose one of the locations on Hersonissos' seafront, or pay a must visit to the uphill picturesque of Old Hersonissos, Koutouloufari, and Piskopiano for a typical Cretan meal. For those keen to explore further afield popular fish taverns can be found in the villages of Analipsi, Sissi, Plaka, and Elounda. All our guests have the opportunity to self cater by using the apartments' fully equipped kitchenettes. Supermarkets, fruit and vegetable, and grocery stores, are but a few minutes walk away and are open until late in the evening (including Sundays). Finally, if after an exhausting day spent at the beach or sightseeing, you choose to stay in and relax without the burden of cooking, food for delivery on order is readily available from many establishments offering a wide range of both genuine local and international dishes at reasonable prices.
